Powerball glitch that led to $2B jackpot drawing delay revealed

Lottery officials disclosed this week that a glitch that was affecting the process of verification in Minnesota was

the reason for the delay during the record-breaking $2.04 billion Powerball jackpot draw.

Initially scheduled for the night of Monday, the draw was delayed for several hours from Monday night until Tuesday morning as officials dealt with the glitch.

"After record-breaking lottery participation and Minnesota's sales verification system led to an inability to process the lottery,

a statement on the Minnesota Lottery website reads. ""The delay was needed to verify that the Powerball drawing was conducted in a safe and accurate manner.

In no way was the security of the process at any time compromised."
